- It
was in 1979, as a six year old, when Gayathri got initiated into music.
- She
could identify several ragas during concerts when she was barely three
years old.
- Her
first concert was at Srinivasa Sastry Hall, Mylapore, Chennai, in 1986
for the "Children Academy".
- Gayathri
has won numerous prizes and awards in music competitions representing
her school, Kendriya Vidhyalaya, IIT Madras as well as Meenakshi College
for Women, Madras, where she did her B.Sc (Maths) and a Post-Graduate
Degree in Computer Science.
- Gayathri
has also learnt to play the violin under the tutelage of Smt. T. Rukmini.
- Almost
all critics have unanimously agreed that her strengths lie in a rich,
mellifluous, well-modulated voice; meticulous awareness of sahithya
(diction & pronunciation); the purity and precision that characterise
the rendering of ragas and a strict adherence to tradition.
